I was interviewed by Karen D'cruz from BFM radio station this afternoon. They wanted to know about sonographer profession. The interview will be on air on next Monday in Career Unusual segment. I was really nervous during the interview and plus there a lot of activities going on all of the sudden. It was really funny because the distraction cost me a big time! Elastography : A Diagnosis Tool For Breast Cancer

You might haven't heard about Elastography before unless you are working in Imaging Department. Elastography is actually quite sometime in Medical Imaging. It is just the application of this technology is still minimal in Malaysia. Elastography is a non invasive method to confirm cancerous mass using the stiffness or strain of the soft tissue. It is widely use in breast, prostate and etc. For breast, it is very useful especially to reduced number of cases for biopsy. Since Biopsy is a quite costly procedure to determine whether the mass is malignant or benign. So, by using Elastography, we can classify the strain ratio which 1-3 is benign, >3-4 is suspected malignant and have to go through biopsy and 5 is malignant. Which can avoid the benign mass to undergo biopsy.

Working In Saudi Arabia? Dare or Not?

My friend who is one of the most senior O&G sonographer in Malaysia just called me a few days ago. She was so excited that Saudi Arabia is offering her a job with..Hmm..very lucrative pay for me. But as her salary here in Malaysia is much2 more higher than that, she asked me if I would interested in it. Looking at the figure, of course! But then, when to think of it agin, I rather work in Malaysia. Because, there is a speculation that we are going to have a new wave of recession, so, don't quit any permanent job you have unless you can get a permanent job asap. The job is a contract basis, so, I think I better stick to this job unless, they don't need me anymore which I think they need me very much at this point of time. Can't wait to get the first bonus this year..ahaks!

The uterus (from Latin "uterus", plural uteri) or womb is a major female hormone-responsive reproductive sex organ of mostmammals including humans. One end, the cervix, opens into the vagina, while the other is connected to one or both fallopian tubes, depending on the species. It is within the uterus that the fetus develops during gestation, usually developing completely inplacental mammals such as humans and partially in marsupials such as kangaroos and opossums. Two uteruses usually form initially in a female fetus, and in placental mammals they may partially or completely fuse into a single uterus depending on the species. In many species with two uteruses, only one is functional. Humans and other higher primates such as chimpanzees, along with horses, usually have a single completely fused uterus, although in some individuals the uteruses may not have completely fused. Most animals that lay eggs, such as birds and reptiles, have an oviduct instead of a uterus. Hi guys! It's been quite a long time since I last posted my latest post. Today is just a short post. I'm suffering a really bad headache from morning after a long drive from JB for work. But I still have to post this one as it is important to my fellow sonographers friends who are still looking for a job...

Kidney Stone Using Toshiba Xario XG

A kidney stone is a hard mass developed from crystals that separate from the urine within the urinary tract. Normally, urine contains chemicals that prevent or inhibit the crystals from forming. These inhibitors do not seem to work for everyone, however, so some people form stones. If the crystals remain tiny enough, they will travel through the urinary tract and pass out of the body in the urine without being noticed.

Kidney stones may contain various combinations of chemicals. The most common type of stone contains calcium in combination with either oxalate or phosphate. These chemicals are part of a person’s normal diet and make up important parts of the body, such as bones and muscles.

A less common type of stone is caused by infection in the urinary tract. This type of stone is called a struvite or infection stone. Another type of stone, uric acid stones, are a bit less common, and cystine stones are rare.

Can you see the echodense in the kidney which cast shadow? That is the kidney stone which measured 6mm.

Why Choose Sonographer?

Last week I received an email from one of the reader who is interested to be a sonographer.

He was asking about the job opportunity and the salary.

After a few months working with distributor, I met a lot of doctors who were asking if I know any sonographer to offer a job.

From this, we can actually know, how good the job opportunities are. But the problem is, they always looking for an experience sonographer.

So, if you want to be a sonographer, make sure you get a job in a high workload places or have an initiative to do locumns to gain more experience.

The more  the workload, the more exposure you get, the more better you will be!

This is what measures your ability, your skill to be a good sonographer as well as increase your salary margin.

Salary? Well for goverment hospitals, they never hire sonographers so, the doctors will do by themselves.

But, in the teaching hospital, yes, they do hire any MLT's or Science Officers as their sonographer. This is actually a good opportunity as you will ahve a free training and with high workloads, you can easily increase your skills and knowledge in Ultrasound.

So, in teaching hospital, the salaries are according to the goverment rate.

In the private hospitals, normally they will offer RM2500 for fresh graduate and you will have to work 6 days a week. For those with experience more than 5 years, they can demand for RM4500-6000. 

Cardiac tech receive a higher salary up to RM7000.

So, what say you?
